Hello there! saydie@saydie here, playing Splinterlands everyday!

The number of rulesets in Splinterlands modifiers keeps increasing, and recently, another ruleset has been added to the circulation. These rulesets are game modifiers that change the conditions of every battle for better or for worse. Sometimes, it can be your friend, which gives certain abilities to your cards, while at times, it brings annoying debilitations that could cripple your team. Sometimes, it lets you have access to cards that you can't use in normal situations, but at times, it will also restrict which cards you can use, which results in you facing your opponent with a limited set of cards to choose from.

But for this new ruleset that I will talk about, it will increase the stats of select cards, unlike before when the stat boosts were applied to all cards.

With the addition of the new modifier, there are now a total of 84 rulesets in the game, if we also include the modifiers that can only be used on Seasonal events, as well as the rulesets that were sunset due to variety of reasons. During a match, there could be up to three rulesets that players can encounter, where they usually need to adjust their lineup to these rulesets to increase the chance that they will win the match. But since the Power of 8 is a ruleset that increases the stats of cards with a certain mana cost, players might have to change their initial team compositions just to bring their 8-mana card.

The Power Of Eight is a ruleset that will increase the speed by +1 and armor by +2 of any unit that costs 8 mana to use.

Instead of giving a stat boost on all units, The Power of 8 only increases the stats of units with an 8 mana cost. Not 7, not 6. Just 8, regardless of their element, rarity, attack type, or bloodline. So, during this ruleset, units with 8 mana will get an additional speed and +2 armor, which will allow them to attack faster and tank more damage.

And among these 8 mana cards, I think that the ones that would benefit the most are magic units, which could attack regardless of their position, and units with Armored Strike that can use their armor to attack, which means that those +2 armor boosts will not only allow them to tank more attacks, but also deliver heavier damage.

However, there are some rulesets that make the effects of The Power of 8 less effective, such as Reverse Speed, which flips the attack order of cards to prioritize those with lower speed, and Uprotected, which makes all units lose their armor.

There are also rulesets that being matched to The Power of 8 won't, such as Odd Ones Out, where you can only summon units with odd mana cost, simply because 8 is an Even number, same with Little League, which only allows the summoning of units with 4 or less mana cost or Junior Varsity that only allows the use of cards with 6 or less mana cost.

Closing

It was interesting that we now have modifiers that only boost the stats of selective cards, which can make us think twice about which cards we will place in our team. But at the same time, it kind of feels like this type of ruleset should have been in the game a long time ago, or that, I feel, it was too simple compared to some of the previously released rulesets.

Thank you, and see you on the next post!
