Hello Splinterlands warriors and welcome back to my blog!

Rulesets are important in Splinterlands because they can completely change how we should build your team. A strong lineup in one battle can become ineffective in another simply because the ruleset changes the value of certain abilities and stats. Splinterlands itself describes modifiers as conditions that can give advantages or disadvantages to different strategies.

Don't just play the strongest cards you have but respect the rulesets too. Plan your strategies based on the rulesets given because even the strongest cards can be rendered ineffective by certain rulesets.

Rulesets Determine Which Strategies Work

Rules such as Back to Basics remove unit abilities, making raw stats speed and attack order much more important.

Rulesets can restrict the cards you use.

Rulesets can limit units based on their attack type or stats. For example, Broken Arrows prevents ranged units from being summoned, while Going the Distance allows only ranged attackers.

Rulesets Change the Value of Stats and Abilities

Some rulesets change how abilities interact or even override normal targeting behavior like Fog of War or Now You See Me. This means you need to understand the ruleset before simply choosing your usual favorite cards. Rulesets can also change the value of stats like Anemic.

Rulesets Can Change Positioning and Attack Speed

Reverse Speed turns around the normal attack order, so slower units can are faster. While Fog of War can change the position of certain cards that have Sneak or Snipe abilities.

Rulesets Create Opportunities for Unexpected Cards

A card that isn't normally part of your lineup can become useful under the right ruleset. This is one of the reasons Splinterlands rewards having a large collection of cards.

Having these reasons in mind, it's better to have a large collection of cards and then use them based on the battle rulesets presented. Don't just use your strongest card but consider if they are the best unit in the current battle.

Featured Battle - Battle Against a Max Level Jolius Blast

In my opinion, Jolius Blast by iblast@iblast is the strongest card in the Frontier, especially at maxed level. He's even stronger than the legendary cards in the Frontier. However, this does not mean that you can use him in every battle and expect to win. Take the above battle as an example. One of the rulesets was Anemic, lowering the starting max health to four. This means that one of Jolius's advantages: his high health is nerfed. Sure he still has his other abilities but in this battle, the more units, the better since health is limited. In this battle, I had three units totalling twelve health against the enemy whose team had a total health of eight. That already gave me an advantage. Consider that my tank also has armor and my two magic units work together to deplete Jolius's four health then you can see how my team won even if the enemy had a max level Jolius Blast.
