You may not be able to reach the entire world with your acts of goodness, but within your neighbourhood and around you, what have you done to make someone feel good? When you do good to one person, you will be surprised the reach that the singular act of goodness will have. That one act of goodness may give birth to others in the lives of even those you do not know and may, somehow, even get to you someday. Every opportunity you have to do good even if it is just to one person, see it as an opportunity to affect humanity positively.

I remember the story I once heard about a young boy that grew up in a poor background and as such, could not afford to go to school. However, when a group of explorative tourists came to the locality for expedition, they stumbled on the boy when they were asking for directions to their destination. They picked interest in him after interacting with him because the level of intelligence exhibited by him was adorable. They asked about his education, and he responded that he had dropped out of junior secondary school because of lack of funds to go to school and now he follows his father to the farm.

The tourists offered to give him scholarships to continue his secondary school education. He felt so grateful and it was like a dream becoming reality. By the time he finished from secondary, he wrote the O'Level examination and emerged as the top in the state. Those tourists were impressed by the feat and extended his scholarship to university level in any university of his choice. He got admission into one of the coveted universities in the world to study about medicine and during the course of his study, he also did excellently well and also went further to undertake a few researches and in the course of this, he discovered a cure to a particular ailment that was prevalent in his time.

It was not long and the child of one of the tourists that sponsored him contacted that sickness and passed it to all of them and they were down with the illness. The sickness was so bad that the mortality rate was high, but the boy, who is now a research doctor heard about it. So he travelled with the medication to meet them and after a couple of days of ministering the medication to them, they got well. That was how they were saved from dying and millions of others around the world. Imagine if they had not done good to the boy at that time, they would not have benefited from the cure to their sickness and millions of others too.

The truth is that the person you help today might have millions of other people's destinies tied to their shoulders and by result, you have also helped all of them. More so, the help and the act of goodness you do to one person today may also find its way to you or someone related to you tomorrow. When you want to do good, you do not have to look at the immediate returns. At least for the fact that humanity will be affected positively, then it is a win-win and it will still return to you. When the world is better because of your acts of good, then it is a good thing.

You may think that your actions will not affect the world at large, but the truth is that it will. When you put a drop of ink inside an ocean, it may not make a difference at the moment, but if others emulate you and start pouring ink into the ocean, over time, the colour of the water will change. In the same way in life, when you undertake an action, it will set the precedence for others to act. And when they act in a similar way, it will eventually have a collective effect on the world around you. This is why I believe that the ills you do not want to see in the world, you should not do it. And the good you want to see, you should set the precedence with your actions.

You have to understand that your actions (be it positive or negative) are like seeds that have been planted. You know what happens when you plant a seed, even if it takes a while for the germination process and the growth, it will still produce after its kind. That is, you cannot plant a particular seed and expect for the harvest to take the similitude of another seed, it must be after the likeness of the seed you had planted and in multiple form. Similarly, the good you do to anyone is like a ripple effect and will give birth to other goods.
