From our last episode, we took a look at some foundation on which a good relationship should be built on. If you take a look at the level at which relationships crash these days, you will see that it is beginning to be worrisome. This is why we need to explore the possible ways to maintain a good relationship, so that what used to be good will not suddenly turn sour. Here, we shall explore some more sure foundations that can help people to consolidate on their friendship.

A very crucial foundation that we will look at is forgiveness. No matter how hard you try, you cannot claim to be perfect or without offence. In one way or the other, you may have offended your partner even without knowing it, and they may have also done the same to you. So you need to learn the art of forgiving them. A friend of mine once said that he has developed the ultimate act of "advanced forgiveness," which means that even before his partner has offended him, he has already forgiven her in advance. Adorably, he has been married for years without any issue with his wife. In relationships and marriage, you have to learn to forgive each other's offences.
You have to remember that the other person is a totally different individual from you, from a dissimilar background and other differences, so you do not expect them to always conform to your wishes at all times. More so, as humans, you do not expect them to attain a state of perfection or to please you at all times. The reason why forgiveness exists in the first place is because of offences. The truth is that, sometimes they may not even apologise and they may not even be aware that they have offended you, so you need to make forgiveness your ally.
In addition to forgiveness, another foundation to look at is to observe and respect each other's boundaries. I have seen a relationship that went crashing simply because the girlfriend always go sniffing on the phone of the boyfriend. Now the question is; why will you go searching his phone when you are not a police detective? This does not only breach the boundaries but also a mark of distrust for your partner. There are some boundaries you need to respect in your partner and they will also respect yours. More so, do not make them feel like you are policing them around.
It is worthy to note that every relationship, no matter who you are in it with, has its own limits. These limits can include space, time, privacy, and even some emotional limits. When you understand this, you will not have difficulty dealing with them. In fact, when you understand and respect boundaries and limits, relationships will be better and sweeter. I have come to realise that respecting people's boundaries makes them to know that you really care about them, their feelings, emotions, and general well-being. In fact, it is easier to be drawn towards the person that always has respect for limits than someone that will just break through your boundaries without even feeling anything about it.
The last foundation to build a good relationship that we will look at here is to spend good and quality time together. You will agree with me that the more time you spend with someone, the more you bond with them. There is a kind of deeper connection that you build when you stay or spend time with people. This is why, when people start spending time together, they will tend to grow more in love and even develop more attachment for each other. Try to enjoy the company of your partner and also let them feel and enjoy yours.

It is true that you may be busy with work and other things, but also make out time to spend good time with the person you are in relationship with. You can even engage with them on the activities that you know they enjoy. For example, you can go on an outing with them, visit places, go on vacation, etc. All these will help you to be both emotionally and physically connected and bonded with your partner. No matter how tasking or demanding your work is, you should not sacrifice your relationship for it - you should try to find a balance between them and then create time for the one you love.
