Exploring the Hills via Marigüitar (Eng/Esp)

From the moment you leave Cumana heading toward Marigüitar, you’re treated to incredible views of the beaches along the way. Whether you’re traveling by bus or in a private car, the journey is a pleasure—I’ve already shared some of those images on my blog. Up in the hills, the blue of the sky blends with that of the sea, creating an unparalleled harmony.

However, on the other side there are also landscapes that lift the spirit; I’ve learned to appreciate the hills—each rock formation tells a fascinating story spanning years, leading up to its current state. Some homes along the side of the road—Troncal 9—are privileged to have a permanent view of the sea, something I’ve always wanted but haven’t been able to have.

So far, I’ve visited almost all the beaches between Cumana and Marigüitar, so I’ve also enjoyed both the trip there and back after spending a relaxing day with my family. Even with all the technology available to check beach locations on a map, I’ve made mistakes several times when asking for directions, which highlights my lack of familiarity with the route and the direction I’m looking for—something that can only be achieved by traveling constantly and identifying landmarks, and that’s where the mountains, houses, fruit stands, and other features come into play.

This road is very busy; it connects Cumana with Marigüitar, San Antonio del Golfo, Cariaco, and Carupano. Early in the morning, there’s a lot of traffic on this route—especially the transport of goods from the municipal market and tourists heading to enjoy a day at the beach in one of these tropical paradises. I’m among them right now, on my way to another seaside adventure.

Desde que se sale de Cumaná rumbo a Marigüitar se tienen vistas increíbles de las playas que se perciben durante el recorrido. Se disfruta del viaje que sea en autobús o en carro particular, ya he mostrado parte de esas imágenes en mi blog. En las alturas, el azul del cielo se mezcla con el de mar, logrando una comunión inigualable.

Sin embargo, del otro lado también hay paisajes que alegran el espíritu, he aprendido a apreciar las colinas, cada formación rocosa cuenta una historia fascinate de años, hasta lucir su estado actual. Algunas viviendas al margen de la carretera, la Troncal 9, poseen el privilegio de tener vista al mar de forma permanente, algo que siempre he deseado, pero no ha sido posible.

Hasta ahora he visitado casi todas las playas que se ubican entre Cumaná y Marigüitar, así que he disfrutado también el viaje tanto de ida como de retorno tras pasar un día de esparcimiento en familia. Aún con toda la tecnología disponible para ver en un mapa las ubicaciones de las playas, en varias ocasiones me he equivocado al pedir la parada, lo que deja en evidencia mi desconocimiento del camino y de la dirección que estoy buscando, algo que solamente se logra al viajar constantemente y fijar puntos referenciales y es allí donde las montañas, casas, ventas de frutas y otros elementos entran en acción.

Esta vía es muy transitada, comunica a Cumaná con Marigüitar, San Antonio del Golfo, Cariaco y Carúpano. A primeras horas de la mañana hay mucho movimiento en ese rumbo sobre todo traslado de mercancía procedente del mercado municipal y también de turistas que van a disfrutar de un día de playa en alguno de estos paraísos tropicales, entre esos me encuentro ahora, rumbo a otra aventura marina.
