English version

Armando Zuloaga Blanco Square, better known as Square of Estudiante, is located on Mariño Street in Cumana. A pleasant space steeped in history, for years a group of young people would gather there to share information on various topics, and it also served as a stop on the “university route,” the University of Oriente’s transportation system.

Since my last visit, the place has become more inviting; there is more greenery, which indicates that the maintenance staff has done a good job, even planting shrubs and ornamental plants that are currently in bloom.

The bust of Zuloaga Blanco remains in its original location, despite the weather conditions we have here. I noticed that people are shaded by various trees, including the Almendrón and the Noni. There is now a bus stop on the corner of the plaza for those who live in Cantarrana and the surrounding area.

This afternoon the weather was somewhat cloudy; however, there were no signs that it would rain—perhaps just a passing cloud up to its old tricks. This drastic change in the sky didn’t stop me from enjoying a break from the daily grind and chatting for a while with some acquaintances.

Several years ago, this plaza was home to a stand selling delicious arepas filled with pork and chicken—a must-stop for anyone passing through on their way to the city market. Then things changed drastically, and the arepa stand disappeared, leaving a significant void in the life of the square.

Going out for a walk becomes a necessity when daily life turns chaotic. You need to clear your mind and focus on other things, letting your thoughts wander to a place where you can enjoy being in nature—which is always a good way to relax.
