English version

In Cumana, there are at least two active amphitheaters: the one in Guaqueri Park and the recently inaugurated Hernan Marin Amphitheater. Unfortunately, the one that was located on the campus of the Universidad of Oriente no longer exists. These structures remind us of how education, culture, and entertainment were shared in ancient times. An open-air stage with concrete bleachers surrounding a central area where the main attraction is presented.

Right now, I’m at the Hernan Marin Amphitheater, where regional artists often perform against the backdrop of the Gulf of Cariaco—an ideal setting for performing the folk music that sets us apart. In addition, its vivid murals remind us of symbols that represent the Sucre region.

When viewed from a bird’s-eye perspective, the highest and farthest row of seats creates a striking visual effect, like an optical illusion of moving images. The word “Venezuela,” in white, is located at the highest point, accompanied by a scale model of a boat, clearly representing who we are. I’ve seen this sign at night, and its lights illuminate the letters in yellow, blue, and red, creating an even more emotional impact.

This space also features some quotes and excerpts from Hernan Marin’s songs, which lend even more character to this amphitheater—a venue that’s usually very crowded due to the large number of people who visit the Waterfront daily in the afternoons.

Of course, with the beach serving as a magnificent backdrop, a pleasant breeze blows, and you can be by the sea in just a few minutes. The sound of the waves and the breathtaking view of the sunset create an enchanting scene to admire and enjoy. I think it was a great idea to build an amphitheater here; it’s a wonderful setting for promoting culture while taking advantage of an incredible panoramic view.
