A Carnival Monday (Eng/Esp)

Carnival Monday. At this point in my life, I am still searching for peace and quiet. Gone are the days when I wanted to throw myself into adventure during this time of year and then reminisce about the stories. But for several years now, I have prioritized the inner peace that keeps me away from these festivities where excess is commonplace. Now I reflect on this and see the carnival days with different eyes.

Today, I decided to take my usual walk to the city center to clear my mind for a while and look at the Manzanares River. The landscape looked different. It depends not only on what is outside but also on the mood of the observer. As I was in a good mood, everything seemed splendid to me. The river was calm, and there was a great sense of peace in the place.

The center of Cumana was somewhat busy, with few people walking the streets this morning. Custom dictates that most people are at the beaches, rivers, or other places for collective enjoyment and will later attend the parades organized by the authorities. This event always draws crowds of families, who bring their children dressed up as their favorite heroes.

I enjoyed this walk. Emotions undoubtedly influence how we perceive reality, the lens through which we view nature. In this case, I liked to reflect on the passage of time and how priorities in life tend to change. Over the years, I have matured and perceive situations differently.

Lunes de Carnaval, a estas alturas de mi vida permanezco en búsqueda de tranquilidad, atrás quedaron los deseos de lanzarme a la aventura durante estas fechas y luego recordar las anécdotas. Pero desde hace varios años atrás concedí prioridad a esa paz interna que me mantiene alejado de estas festividades donde el exceso es factor común. Ahora reflexiono al respecto y miro con otros ojos los días carnestolendos.

Hoy decidí realizar un recorrido habitual, caminar rumbo al centro para despejar un rato la mente y observar el Río Manzanares. El paisaje lucía distinto, no solo depende de lo que está fuera en el exterior sino del estado de ánimo de quien observa, como estaba de buen ánimo todo me parecía espléndido. El Río reposaba plácido y se respiraba mucha paz en el lugar.

El centro de Cumaná tenía cierta actividad, pocas personas transitando por las calles en la mañana de hoy. La costumbre indica que la mayoría está en las playas, ríos u otros sitios para el disfrute colectivo y luego asistirán a las comparsas organizadas por las autoridades. En este evento siempre hay aglomeraciones de familias, quienes llevan a los niños disfrazados de sus héroes favoritos.

Disfruté este caminar, sin duda las emociones influyen en cómo percibimos la realidad, ese lente con el cual miramos la naturaleza, en este caso me gustó reflexionar sobre el paso del tiempo y lo que suelen cambiar las prioridades en la vida. A lo largo de los años he madurado y percibo las situaciones de forma distinta.
