Hello, friends! Today, I’m going to prepare a simple recipe for our lunch. I’ve been thinking that a spicy dish—complemented by the slightly salty and savory flavor of tauco (fermented soybean paste)—would be absolutely delicious. So, I headed straight to the traditional market near my home, located at Simpang Mulieng in North Aceh, to buy some squid. They sell a wide variety of items there—fish, chicken, and all sorts of seafood—and I shop there quite often, almost every week!

because we shop once a week specifically for commercial fisheries or snails As for vegetables, usually every time I get home from work I stop at the vegetable stall so I buy several a day, Because for vegetables, I play with fresh green vegetables that have just been brought by vegetable farmers to the kiosk.

Why do I call it a kiosk and not a Vegetable Market? Because it is a kiosk that sells various children's snacks such as crackers and others. They also sell basic necessities, the shape is like a regular kiosk and in front of the gas station they also sell various fresh vegetables brought by local vegetable farmers.

Curious about my recipe for squid with tauco (fermented soybean paste)? Well, just follow the step-by-step instructions I’ll be sharing in this post. This dish is perfect for those who love spicy food and enjoy a savory, salty flavor profile!

materials used

1/2 kilogram of squid, 10 green chilies, 5 red chilies, 10 bird's eye chilies, 3 shallots, 1 clove of garlic, 1 tomato, 1 tablespoon of tauco (fermented soybean paste), 1/2 tablespoon of oyster sauce, and salt and lime juice to taste

manufacturing procedure

First

First, I washed the squid until it was clean. Next, I added salt and lime juice to the squid. I stirred it until it was evenly mixed. Then, I let it sit for about 15 minutes so the spices could soak into the squid.

Second

Next, like chilies, tomatoes, onions, I cut them into small pieces, I cut them obliquely and you can cut them according to your taste.

Third

After all the ingredients were cut, I washed them clean, then I heated a little oil and sautéed them until the ingredients were wilted.

After the chilies, onions, and tomatoes wilted, I added the tauco. After that, I added the squid and stirred it and cooked it until the squid was cooked.

Next, I add half a spoonful of oyster sauce along with some water, then cook until the squid is done and the liquid has reduced—or adjust to your preference—and don't forget to taste and adjust the seasoning.

RESULTS

Here is the result—enjoyed with freshly cooked rice, it’s incredibly delicious and savory. With this squid dish, I don’t think you need any other side dishes; it’s already satisfying enough on its own. Just look at how much my mouth is watering! This is actually my first time cooking squid stir-fried with tauco (fermented soybean paste); usually, I prepare squid in a coconut milk-based sauce, simply because my mother always prefers it that way.

This time I had lunch with just this squid side dish because, as I mentioned above, using this squid side dish alone is very delicious, there's no need to add anything else, including vegetables, but if you get stir-fried vegetables, that's fine, but today I'm not cooking vegetables, guys. The taste is savory and spicy, there is also a natural sweetness from the squid and the spiciness from the chilies that I added and wow, the taste is really very delicious when enjoyed with warm rice like this.

Thank you 🙂🤗
