Walking towards La Colmenita! | [EN/ES]

Hello, Wednesday wanderers!

This Wednesday is another one of those peculiar days—the kind where you might find yourself walking alone through the city, with no one else on the cobblestones, or suddenly come across a huge group of children and their families right in the city center, enjoying something truly unique.

The fact is, despite the hard times affecting the vast majority of Cubans on the island, those of us living in Santa Clara—right in the island's heart—enjoy the privilege of experiencing various forms of culture that, fortunately, are still very much alive.

On a Wednesday like this, music returns in a playful interplay of resonance—bouncing off neighboring buildings and weaving through the trees—bringing a smile to the faces of many who are reminded of their childhood by this children's troupe from the Cuban capital, known as La Colmenita.

And so, encouraged by the weekly #WednesdayWalk dynamic proposed by @tattoodjay—always starting with a smile—today I’m sharing a performance with you that I had previously featured here, and which we were able to witness once again.

If we look dispassionately at each frame, the contrast between the setting and the surroundings might seem crazy—or at the very least, jarring—but I ask you to look beyond that. Try to imagine witnessing a group of children singing the very melodies you sang yourselves years ago—songs that allow an entire town to dance happily to the rhythm of memory. For that reason alone, I believe it is worth pausing along the way and giving thanks for the steps that have brought us here.

I don’t think it’s necessary to describe every single moment. In every frame, there is room for you to imagine stories—personal or otherwise—and to be happy; why not?

For now, I’ll say goodbye until the next path reveals itself—but not without first sending each of you a warm, radiant hug!

¡Hola caminantes de miércoles!

Este miércoles resulta otro día raro, de esos en que lo mismo puedes encontrarte caminando solo por la ciudad, sin nadie más sobre sus adoquines, o bien te sorprende un grupo enorme de niños con sus familiares en en mismo centro urbano mientras disfrutan de algo único.

Es que, a pesar de los tiempos difíciles que golpean a la gran mayoría de los cubanos en la isla, quienes vivimos en Santa Clara, justo en el centro insular, tenemos el privilegio de la cultura en diversas expresiones que aún no fallecen afortunadamente.

Un miércoles como éste, la música retorna en su juego de resonancia que aprovecha las edificaciones colindantes, juega con los árboles y devuelve la sonrisa a más de una persona que recuerda la niñez gracias a este conjunto infantil llamado La Colmenita, procedentes de la capital cubana.

Es así que, animado por la dinámica semanal de #WednesdayWalk que @tattoodjay nos propone, siempre desde la sonrisa como punto de partida, hoy les comparto un espectáculo que ya había traído por acá en una anterior ocasión que pudimos presenciar también.

Si miramos fríamente cada fotograma, puede parecernos de locos, o cuanto menos disonante, el contraste entre el escenario y el entorno, pero les pido vayan más allá. Intenten imaginar presenciar a una agrupación de niños cantando aquellas melodías que cantaban hace años ustedes mismos y que posibilita que todo un pueblo dance al compás del recuerdo con felicidad. Por ello solo, creo que vale la pena detenernos en el camino y agradecer los pasos que nos traen acá.

No creo necesario describir cada instante. En cada fotograma, hay espacio para que se imaginen historias, personales o no, y sean felices, ¿por qué no?

Mientras, me voy despidiendo hasta un nuevo camino por descubrir, no sin antes, regalarles a cada uno de ustedes ¡un abrazo de luz!
