It was awful! I was asked to stop at the grocery on my way home. Mass hysteria had taken over. The cute cash register girl looked as if she had been repeatedly violated. Her eyes were glazed over, a blank expression had replaced the normally bright eyed smiling face. I even thought I saw her shivering a bit. She had a strand of hair falling loosely about one cheek. You poor thing. She mumbled, "There's a snowstorm on the way." I am not kidding. I wish I had taken pictures, but I was afraid to let my guard down. Not only was there not a gallon of milk, not a loaf of bread, but not a lobster tail was even left. The bacon was all gone and so were the hot dogs. There must be some wealthy people consuming what might be their last meal tonight, or some poor people throwing their credit card to the wind with the same thought. Heaven help us if we ever have a real emergency. Yes, this is OBX North Carolina, yes snow is unusual, yes it never last more than a day or two. We are not REAL preppers, but I can say we have enough water stored for 2 months, enough food for 6 months and enough ammo for about two days judging by the way these knuckleheads are acting down here. Seriously though, I have several aquintenances that have told me they never have more than a day or two of food in the house. Really, with kids, pets ??? One believes God will provide. the other believes others will provide and one believes he will TAKE what he needs, no kidding. He told me in his dire need scenario he will allow his victim to take a last swig of water from his bottle before he takes it a gun point. If he doesn't resist, he will let him walk away to die slowly of thirst or hunger. What a guy?! Now I digress. We live in a rural setting. Neighbors hunt, target shoot, farm, etc. The Fire Department just showed up at the house down the road. This fellow was burning his trash in a barrel behind his house. Someone called 911 because they thought he might have a house fire from trying to stay warm. The poor fire guys. The poor neighbor! It is illegal, so there they are in 20 degree temps hosung down a fire barrel just before the "snowstorm of the century hits". Now, back to the grocery. Why was I there? My wife asked me to pick up a gallon of milk on my way home... just in case.
