Greetings yall. Today i wanted to teach you how to make some really basic fried squid! Let's face it, we all love fried food, whether or not we care to admit it. I bet you are thinking about it right now and drooling ever so slightly. Well what if i told you that it was super easy to make? Trust me, you can do this :)

Ingredients:

Squid

flour

oil (lets use vegetable oil)

salt

You will also need: A large bowl, a plate, some paper towels, a large ziplock bag, and a good metal device to extract the squid from the hot oil. I find a metal strainer spoon to be best, but you could probably use a pair of tongs, or even a normal spoon if that's all you have.

-It's a good idea to prepare your squid before hand. Cut it and let it sit in a bowl of water. Put it aside until later.

-Also prepare a dish with a few paper towels placed on it, and also put aside until needed.

-In any pot, or skillet, or even a wok. Fill it up with oil to about half way. Heat up the oil to medium high, not too hot, that will make some pretty vigorous hot oil droplets, which can be bad. For your own safety, don't fry at max heat!

-In a large ziplock bag, pour a bit of flour, no more than a cup or two will be necessary. Take the squid out of the water, letting most of it drain back into the bowl. The idea is for the squid to be wet, not dripping wet. Now drop the pieces into the ziplock bag, close the bag, and shake it like you would a pair of maracas! Maybe you can listen to some mariachi music, it could help you with your shaking skills.

-Now the squid is ready to fry. Test your oil using one single piece of the squid. Gently place it in the oil...do not drop it in there! It should take no more than a couple minutes for the squid to turn golden brown. Watch it closely, when it looks golden and crispy, it is already done. Proceed to fry up all of the squid in this manner.

-When the right color is achieved, remove from the oil and place it on the dish with the paper towels. Let it sit there for a few minutes before eating, that will soak up most of the excess oil.

-Add salt to taste! You might also want to squeeze a bit of lemon on it, or add pepper, but these things are not necessary. If you really want to get fancy, you could mix a bit of ketchup and horseradish for a basic cocktail sauce. Another great but simple sauce for this dish, is a ketchup/mayo mixture.

Anyone can make this, and that includes you! Oh, and if fried squid is not your thing, just substitute chicken, it works just as well.
