Hello chicos! Siii, soy yo otra vez, pero ya saben que soy ansiosa a mil y no podía dejar de contarles que hoy finalmente terminé los trabajos en mi cocina y necesitaba mostrarles cómo quedó todo. Aunque les cuento que aún falta cambiar el color de la encimera, pero como eso será para más adelante, podemos decir que de momento ya terminamos.
Hey, guys! Yep, it's me again, but you know I'm super impatient, and I just had to tell you that I finally finished the work on my kitchen today and needed to show you how everything turned out. I should mention that we still need to change the color of the countertop, but since that's for later, we can say we're done for now.
Como saben hace tiempo he querido cambiar un poco el estilo de decoración de mi casa, ya que tenía colores bastante oscuros en la sala y lo mismo pasaba en la cocina, por lo que decidí cambiar los tonos rojos por blanco o grises, esto para tratar de darle un poco más de luz a mi sala. De hecho, estoy tratando de recrear un poco el estilo nórdico moderno, pero dándole, mi toque especial por supuesto.
De este estilo de decoración estoy tomando más que todo los colores claros, el uso de textiles, entre otros, y ya que la sala, en cuanto a color y algunos muebles, había sido transformada, la cocina era mi próximo objetivo, ya que tanto la encimera como el salpicadero eran negros, lo que hacía que la cocina se viera mucho más oscura, y para complicar un poco más, la situación tenía una pared roja, lo que en un espacio súper pequeño, se robaban toda la luz, por lo que necesitaba un cambio urgente, y el año pasado me despedí del color rojo e incorporamos el gris, sin embargo, la cocina seguía viéndose oscura, por lo que necesitaba cambiar el color tanto de la encimera como del salpicadero.
As you know, I’ve been wanting to change up my home’s decor style for a while now, since the living room had pretty dark colors—and the same went for the kitchen—so I decided to swap out the red tones for white or gray, in an effort to bring a little more light into my living room. In fact, I’m trying to recreate a bit of the modern Nordic style, but with my own special touch, of course.
From this decor style, I’m mainly drawing inspiration from the light colors and the use of textiles, among other elements. Since the living room—in terms of color and some of the furniture—had already been transformed, the kitchen was my next target. Both the countertop and the backsplash were black, which made the kitchen look much darker, and to complicate things a bit further, there was a red wall, which, in such a tiny space, sucked up all the light. So I needed a change right away, and last year I said goodbye to red and incorporated gray; however, the kitchen still looked dark, so I needed to change the color of both the countertop and the backsplash.
Lograr el cambio que estaba buscando, requería trabajo de obra pesada, es decir, retirar todos los azulejos o cerámicas que forman tanto la encimera como el salpicadero, y la verdad no quería hacer eso. En primer lugar porque la cocina la uso a diario y no podía prescindir de ella por mucho tiempo, y en segundo lugar, resultaría bastante costoso, así que decidimos hacer mano de una opción novedosa que hace rato está en el mercado, y se trata de los paneles adhesivos.
La idea era comenzar por el salpicadero, ya que era la parte más fácil de cubrir, ya que a la encimera hay que aplicarle otro tipo de material pues necesitamos que sea resistente al calor y al uso diario, así que el plan desde un inicio fue dejarlo para luego.
Pero volviendo al salpicadero, tanto en la parte que se encuentra en el área del fregadero cómo la que se encuentra hacia la zona de la cocina podíamos trabajar con los paneles autoadhesivos y para eso nos fuimos a Mango Bajito y ahí encontré unos paneles geométricos espectaculares en color blanco y negro que van perfectos con el estilo nórdico moderno, pero no había suficiente cantidad para todo el salpicadero, sin embargo ya que me habían gustado tanto decidí traerlos a casa y los instalé de inmediato.
Achieving the change I was looking for would require major construction work—that is, removing all the tiles that make up both the countertop and the backsplash—and honestly, I didn’t want to do that. First, because I use the kitchen every day and couldn’t do without it for very long, and second, because it would be quite expensive, so we decided to try a new option that’s been on the market for a while: adhesive panels.
The idea was to start with the backsplash, since it was the easiest part to cover; the countertop, on the other hand, requires a different type of material because it needs to be heat-resistant and able to withstand daily use, so the plan from the start was to leave that for later.
But getting back to the backsplash—both the section near the sink and the one toward the cooking area—we could use the self-adhesive panels. So we went to Mango Bajito, where I found some spectacular black-and-white geometric panels that go perfectly with the modern Nordic style, but there wasn’t enough to cover the entire backsplash. Still, since I liked them so much, I decided to bring them home and install them right away.
Como les dije, el material no era suficiente, de hecho, no alcanzó para toda la pared en la que se encuentra el fregadero y quedó un espacio de 14 centímetros libres en la parte inferior, además de la pared de la ventana, en la que se encuentra la zona de trabajo y la cocina, así que nos quedó una pared completa y el lateral de la cocina sin paneles adhesivos. Para resolver esto, se me ocurrió que podía resolverlo colocando en el espacio que quedó libre en la pared del fregadero una especie de zócalo con otro tipo de paneles adhesivos, y eso fue lo que hice.
Para esto, por supuesto, regresamos a Mango Bajito y nos trajimos un panel liso que simula la madera y que combina bastante bien con nuestros gabinetes y los demás toques de madera que he estado incorporando a mi cocina tratando de buscar el look nórdico moderno que tanto me gusta, y fue mi esposo el encargado de realizar este trabajo, ya que se necesitaban a hacer muchísimos cortes, pues había dos toma corrientes en la pared y, por supuesto, yo no me iba a arriesgar a hacer ese trabajo, por dicha le quedaron excelentes los cortes y todo se ve bastante bien.
As I told you, there wasn’t enough material; in fact, it wasn’t enough to cover the entire wall where the sink is located, leaving a 14-centimeter gap at the bottom, as well as the wall by the window, where the work area and the kitchen are located. So we ended up with an entire wall and the side of the kitchen without adhesive panels. To fix this, I came up with the idea of installing a sort of baseboard using a different type of adhesive panel in the empty space on the sink wall—and that’s exactly what I did.
To do this, of course, we went back to Mango Bajito and picked up a smooth panel with a wood-like finish that goes quite well with our cabinets and the other wood accents I’ve been incorporating into my kitchen as I try to achieve the modern Nordic look I love so much. My husband was in charge of doing this job, since it required a lot of cutting, since there were two electrical outlets on the wall, and, of course, I wasn’t going to risk doing that job myself. Luckily, the cuts turned out great, and everything looks really good.
Listo el salpicadero decidí reorganizar la cocina, ya que como les comenté hace unas semanas había comprado algunas cositas para complementar la decoración como unos envases de cocina de vidrio con tapa de madera, además de un porta utensilios en cerámica blanca y distintos accesorios para que la cocina luciera más linda.
Por otro lado, también cambié el color (de plata a negro) y la ubicación de la barra para las tazas que fue trasladada hasta la estación de café.
En mi cocina también tenía una repisa que usted no habían visto hasta el día de hoy que se encuentra en la pared opuesta al fregadero, y por supuesto, ella también recibió un cariñito especial y decidimos cambiar las barras de metal plateado, por negro, buscando que hubiese cohesión en toda la cocina.
Once the backsplash was finished, I decided to reorganize the kitchen. As I mentioned a few weeks ago, I had bought a few little things to complement the decor, such as some glass kitchen containers with wooden lids, a white ceramic utensil holder, and various accessories to make the kitchen look nicer.
I also changed the color (from silver to black) and the location of the cup rack, which I moved over to the coffee station.
In my kitchen, I also had a shelf that you hadn’t seen until today—it’s on the wall opposite the sink—and, of course, it got a little makeover too. We decided to replace the silver metal rails with black ones to create a cohesive look throughout the kitchen.
La verdad es que yo estoy enamorada de cómo está quedando todo, pero por ahora nos toca parar y decidir con qué material vamos a trabajar en la encimera. De momento tenemos en mente varias opciones: micro cemento, resina epoxica, vinil o fórmica, pero para cualquiera de ellas necesitamos nivelar toda la encimera, así que hemos decidido dejar este trabajo para más adelante y concentrarnos en finalizar la habitación de Miranda en la que hemos estado trabajando de forma simultánea, y por cierto ya le falta muy poco para estar lista.
Como ven, he estado bastante ocupada en casita, y la verdad es que documentar todo el proceso ha sido complicado ya que tengo las manos ocupadas o sucias para tomar el cell, y para ser sincera también lo he olvidado ya que estoy concentrada en lo que estoy haciendo. Sin embargo, quise compartir con ustedes como va todo el proceso de remodelación en casa. Y cuéntenme, qué les parece todo? Qué recomendaciones me dan para seguir mejorando mis espacio? The truth is, I’m in love with how everything is turning out, but for now we have to pause and decide what material we’re going to use for the countertop. Right now we’re considering several options: microcement, epoxy resin, vinyl, or Formica, but for any of them we’ll need to level the entire countertop, so we’ve decided to put this off for later and focus on finishing Miranda’s room, which we’ve been working on at the same time—and by the way, it’s almost ready.
As you can see, I’ve been pretty busy at home, and honestly, documenting the whole process has been tricky since my hands are either busy or dirty to grab my phone—and to be honest, I’ve also forgotten to do it because I’m so focused on what I’m doing.
