I was literally just throwing my post together about our van conversion (to fit with the other posts to do with our vehicle conversions - I'll post the links in the next post if you're interested) and Jamie showed me this video which really tickled me this morning. We've always taken the mick out of the #vanlife movement because it's definitely social media driven, and without meaning to sound arrogant, we've both been living in vehicles on and off for years before this hashtag started (yeah, I sound like a twat I know!). And yeah, I know there are some really awesome, inspiring and alt crew living a genuine life in a vehicle, and I totally don't think this video is a true picture of this life, but far out it's funny.

I mean, there was actually a time when living in a van/truck/vehicle was NOT something you wanted to advertise - you'd be seen as a bit of a loser/scumbag/feral/hermit/nutcase. Whilst I can proudly put my hand up for all of those monikers at some point in my life, I always love the irony of people now saying: 'wow, I'd love to live in a van' as opposed to 'oh my god, I could NEVER live in a VAN - where do you get your post?' - a telling pre-WWVL comment (pre-World Wide Van Life).

I've been wanting another hashtag to describe living in vehicles for a while, and someone suggested #dieselnomads, which I love, but what if you don't have a diesel engine? I also like #rollinghome, but let's be honest, if you want the views or you want to find awesome and inspiring vehicle conversions, you look for the vanlife hashtag.

I love this part - I'm definitely going to do some hand dancing next time we're on the open road with our van/landrover/truck/whatever it is we've converted. Damn though, if only we knew vanlife was gonna be a THANG - we could have made some stickers ;)
