Yesterday was a big one for me. Not physically, but mentally. And in a positive sense. I think I was starting to feel a little cooped up after the rainy week. I was so wet and cold every night that once I got home from work, in the heartless box, I would just give in to the day without actually doing much. I started to ask myself, “what am I doing here?”
And then once the nice weather hit and I had a day off, I got back to it and remembered exactly why I was here. A 75 degree day, end of summer, and I got to go snowboarding. The hike up wasn’t the easiest thing in the world, but I managed to get a little assist from the lift maintenance crew, who were able to drive me about a third of the way up- until the work road ended.
From there, I did take a small break at my old spot, and shoveled and hiked a small jump for a little bit before continuing up the mountain. It was kind of a bittersweet relief when the footpath turned to snow. The footing in places was better, but you couldn’t tell where there were loose rocks and what not- making it altogether much more dangerous.
But I survived. And went a little farther up the mountain towards “Devil’s Kitchen”; the large outcropping of rocks on the way to the summit, pleasantly placed next to a sulfur pit so the whole area smells like farts. I didn’t go too far though; these are literally the most dangerous and stupid conditions to be climbing around up there in.
All in all it was a fantastic day. Cut a little short by my own poor decision making skills, but that’s okay. There will be more. Happy actifitting, y’all
