Man has engaged in many activities since the beginning of time that have harmed the globe and atmospheric conditions, making it unsafe for human life. This includes deforestation, the use of trees for charcoal and firewood for cooking, and motor vehicles emitting smoke, which harms the ozone layer. The use of plastic and nylon bags as packaging leads to humans disposing of them wrongly, littering the environment, as well as the rivers and waterways.
As much as I can, I try not to increase the depletion of the earth by applying the use of the gas cooker as well as the electric cooker for cooking, encouraging the use of electric vehicles as a form of transportation, the use of renewable energy as a source of energy, and so on. This will help reduce the smoke immersion into the ozone layer from the burning of fuel as well as wood.
The reuse of things has also been a way of saving the environment, and as such i try as much as I can with every opportunity, I get to reuse items and also buy second-hand items, nylon bags used to pack items purchased from the market instead of disposing of them or burning them in fire. Items like the plastic bottles are usually kept and gathered together so as to take them for recycling. This has become a duty we teach recently to individuals, making them keep and gather these bottles neatly so as to take them to a recycling company for recycling.
Educating people to understand their social responsibility as well as their responsibility in keeping their environment clean and safe is a topic of discussion in every school. This has been taught to children in the primary school and right through their secondary schools, making them understand the values of their actions.
The government of my country, in its own way, has tried recently to stop the cutting of trees and the burning of these trees for charcoal and firewood; it has tried to promote the use of cooking gas for household cooking in the act of reducing the carbon footprint.
With this, I call upon readers to participate in a challenge to reduce the use of plastics, using less plastic weekly in comparison to their normal use of plastics and also to try to engage in a monthly communal cleaning of the environment to keep their environment clean as well as safe.
