2026 has actually not been a different year from the previous years; we start the year with celebration, listing out goals and resolutions for the year, and we end up most of the time. We're achieving little to nothing from our list of goals and resolutions.

That being said, it doesn’t mean that the year did not come along with its blessings, as well as its challenges. The year, which started just like yesterday, is almost coming to an end, and I have a lot of things to be grateful for. Part of which is the people I have met this year, being able to feel what love is, or what it looks like in some ways, and being able to travel to destinations I have only dreamt of travelling to.

The year 2026 has been my most consistent in engagement of any sort. My engagement in the Hive blockchain has been consistent throughout the year, writing, posting, and curating other people’s content with the aim of reaching 2,000 Hive power, one of the milestones I achieved this year.

It is true to say that the older we get, the more experienced we get in life; however, a person who does not interact with others one way or the other may have less life experience compared to that person who has these interactions. This contact with others will not only teach us about people, it will also broaden our knowledge about ourselves as humans.

This year, I have come to understand the selfish nature of humans and how others view selfishness; some disguise it as self-care, and the world has grown to accept it as the new normal. Interacting with others this year has only opened my eyes to the different ways others think; it made me realise that it is truly in a man's nature to be selfish, and that we all do things for others only because we have something to gain from it, and when the gain is gone, we disappear with it.
Some of my hopes for the year were cut short and did not get to sprout, but the year has been a good year looking back at the things I have achieved for myself this year.

What I hope for the rest of the year is to understand the nature of my good heart and why I do what I do for people. Am I truly a good person who does things for others just because I can, or am I among the populace who do things for others because there is a gain that I seek? Even when I feel my support and showing up for others spring from the capacity to do so and also from empathy, I tend to ask myself if it's not a deep drive for personal gain buried under my intentions.

The year is coming to an end, but with a few months left, the plans are still rolling, and until the year truly comes to an end, there are still endless possibilities for what we were unable to achieve.

My name is rishagamo@rishagamo, and this is my response to the Hive Learners weekly prompt, week 238 episode 01: “LAST DAYS OF 2026”
