I just spent a couple of hours looking back at my Hive posts for 2021 and I think it was a pretty productive year over all...

I decided to pick one to three posts which themed each month of the year and here's what I selected...

January - Covid criticisms, Financial research and Car Matriculation

I didn't leave the cabin I was living in at the time much in January, I seemed to spend most of my time writing posts criticising the chosen social response to Covid-19 and a few financial research type posts, and my life was also dominated by sorting out paperwork for getting my car matriculated to Portugal.

February - I got into DEFI

I started using Binance Smart Chain for the first time which really set the scene for A LOT MORE DEFI in coming months.

And more crypto research - GOOD THEMES! GOOD WRITING

March - Cub Defi and Onto the land

i did well out of getting into Cub early and I finally got onto my land for the first time and spent a lot of time clearing brash - March was a good month!

And I bought my Strimmer.

April - Real Land and SPlinterlands

I thought these made a cute contrast.... Overwhelmed with my real land and buying a Splinterlands Tract.

Would have thought that the later would be worth three times as much as the former already?!

Oh, BTW, I was still buying Hive at this point, folks!

May - Crypto Crash and chip dilemma

Not an easy month, the Crypto markets decided to take a tumble and IRL didn't help much as I had a dilemma over whether or not to chip my wooed.

I made two correct strategic choices in the end - I just hodld the crypto and I didn't chip my wood, that could have been painful!

In retrospect May and June were 'grind months' - gettting the land cleared!

June - spiritual stuff, pause, polygon

I had a bit of a reflective month in June - I wrote a lot of self-reflection type posts connected to the abundance.tribe@abundance.tribe and ecotrain@ecotrain challenges, I had a bit of a reset and plan for the land and I got into Polygon.

July - DEFI diversification, connectivity woes and the SPS launch

I'd was feeling too exposed to BSC in July and decided to diversfiy into Polygon and ThorSwap and Osmosis, while IRL it was with horror I realised I had no mobile connection on my land anymore - I've since sorted that with another SIM!

And being always on was about to become crucial because July was the start of the SPS airdrop!

August - Ironic Chill

I had a real chill month in August, well not so chill because it was damned hot, I didn't go to the land at all, but I did get into researching about crypto and development, and I stopped playing Splinterlands and started renting my cards out instead, it was just way more lucrative!

September - Firewood and CryptoRaiders

I got back to the land in September and started chopping firewood which was ongoing!

This was also the month I really got into CryptoRaiders, at least playing, an investment which I've got into more heavily since and has turned out very nicely!

October - ONE UP and Roof

ONE-UP launched, which I'm well into, one of the most dynamic initiatives on Hive ATM, and I finally got the ROOF on my house done! - October was a good month! That ROOF was was a real highlight of the year.

November - Avalanch, Thor IDO and Olives

I had more fun on DEFI - with trying out Avalanche for the first time and I had some unfun with the THOR IDO, which reminded me of just how SHIT ETH is.

But the real highlight of the month was the Olive Harvest - Eight days of fun times and 50 litres of olive oil to boot. These are also the people I'm not spending New Years Eve with, I got an invite but I don't do New Years Eve parties, I'd much rather wake up fresh on New Years Day!

December - Ill, Chaos Legion and Fruit Trees

A bit of a dip in early December as I got ill - blurggh for two whole weeks, but I least I had some Chaos Legion packs to open!

The up side is that both during and after being ill I managed to get my fruit trees planted and before the rains started too, which was nice.

2021 Final Thoughts

You know it's been an OK year - I'm gonna give myself 7/10 - a REASONABLE balance of on-land stuff and blogging/ crypto shenanigans.

I think I spent a bit too long lost in the Crypto Wonderland, but in retrospect I've learned a lot and I've done OK out of it all, so I'm not gonna chastise myself for it.

And I have got some stuff done on the land too, even if it was nowhere near as much as I intended.

It's also nice to see that 'regular work' hardly plays a role at all, that's been on auto-pilot, something I've been able to manage easily on just a few hours a week, and same can be said for Portuguese Bureaucracy - by the time I'd got the car imported, that was all done!

It's also easy to see that for next year I need two main things to focus on -

  1. The land
  2. The language!

But I won't give up on the crypto wonderland, I will still spend several hours a week within!

And oh Yeah, for me Covid has seemed like a very distant thing this year, which I guess is something I should be VERY thankful for!
