What I didn't know as a newcomer in hive, what I know now, and my progress so far in 2 months.
If I was told on July 27th, 2026 when I created my account that Hive would change how I see social media, I wouldn't have believed you because I was so addicted to facebook, Instagram, tiktok and the rest of them.
Two months later, a lot has changed and I am excited about the changes so far.
This is for every newcomer who is confused like I was when I newly joined.
These is the list of few things I didn't know as a newcomer;
I was posting without a community.
My biggest struggle. I would just click post and publish to my blog. No community and no audience. I didn't know that posting to your blog is like shouting in an empty market. When you post in communities like Hive Learners, Liketu, Ladies of hive, India United, Town square etc, your post goes to people who are actually interested in that topic. That was a game changer.I had no idea how tags worked.
I was using random tags like #life #happy #blog. Tags are not just hashtags, they are how curation teams and people find you. I didn't know about the power of niche tags and community tags. Now I know to use 3-4 relevant tags, community tag, and broader tags like #hive #ecency.I thought posting was enough.
I posted and logged out, waiting for upvotes. Nothing happened. I didn't know Hive is a social chain. You have to be social by reading other people's posts and leaving meaningful comments, answering questions. That's how people discover you.I didn't understand Hive Point and Reputation.
I thought everything I earned should be cashed out. Now I understand that 96 HP is not just a number, it's my influence and my future upvote power.
These are what I know now along the way
Community first before you post.
Before I write now, I asked, where does this post that I am writing belong?
Who will benefit from this point?
Engagement is not optional.
Few minutes of commenting every day brings more growth than making extra posts.
Consistency beats perfection.
You don't need perfect grammar, you need to show up. People connect to real stories here.
Power Up.
I learned not to withdraw everything. Powering up my earnings is what grew my account.
My progress so far, from July 27th till now.
Let me be transparent, because I wish someone was transparent with me.
I joined on July 27th, 2026, Just over two months ago.
My Hive Power is from 0 to 96.238 though I have used some for promotion and sharing and all my HP was powered up from my earnings. I haven't bought Hive yet, this is pure work.
My Reputation is from 25 to 58 and I am slowly building trust.
Biggest Win now is that know how to choose the right community and tags, and my posts are gradually reaching the right people slowly.
Biggest Lesson is the Hive rewards patience.
Those first $0.01 posts were frustrating, but they taught me so many things.
I'm still very small, I know. 96 HP is nothing compared to many of you here. But from where I started posting to nowhere with wrong tags to now having almost 100 HP in 2 months, I am proud of this small progress.
To any newcomer reading this, please learn about communities and tags in your first week. It will save you one month of frustration like it did for me.
And thank you to everyone who has supported me with an upvote or a comment since July.
You kept me here.
To the oldies, what is that particular thing you wish someone told you in your first two months on Hive?
Drop it for us newbies in the comments.
