I have always been a fan of old school anime. It amazes me to see what they achieved in that era with the few advances in animation technology that existed at the time.

Something that I pay a lot of attention to is how they solved some action scenes without the current special effects and, even so, they were still impressive.

One of my favorite mangaka was Leiji Matsumoto (who recently passed away). His character design maintained a uniformity and elegance over time from his designs for Captain Harlock to the most current, as was the case with the video series for the Daft Punk band "Interstellar 666".

One of the animes that I liked the most, in which they worked on the character design, was “El Galactico” or “Starzinger”. The story tells of the space journey that Princess Aurora must follow from Earth to the center of the galaxy to reach The Great Planet. Three cyborgs must guard and protect her so that she can restore the energy of the galaxy and save the planets and their inhabitants that are slowly dying or mutating due to the lack of the energy that vitalizes the galaxy.

From there, my favorite character was Captain Giorgio (I don't remember the original name in the English version!). He was quite a mysterious character. Although intelligent, he used to be reserved and very polite. His love for Princess Aurora was very noticeable and he made no effort to hide it. He was a great ally and friend to his Galactico and Glotin companions.

So I made a fanart of him. I introduced some small changes, especially in the shape of the hair to give it more looseness and in the shading. In the anime of that time, there were very few scenes that used shading, I suppose because of the time it took to complete the animations and because of how complex it would end up being to animate them.

I kept the color palette for the backgrounds. At that time, many bright colors were used, I particularly love it. It gave a lot of life to the scenes. I don't find anime where they use such dark and gloomy color palettes appealing to me, unless the scene or theme calls for it.

I share an original reference frame of the character and the coloring process.
