Even after knowing that attempting crimes can lead to serious consequences criminals still think of doing crime activities. Common people think that to stop crime there should be punishment. Law created punishment for every crime some receive life sentence, some stay in prison for many years, or even face the death penalty. People would still commit crime after knowing these risks and break the law. This raises an important question: do punishments really work?

In my opinion, punishments do work but still it's not enough. We need laws and punishments to maintain peace in the society, these certain things prove that actions are unacceptable. Also, if there are no consequences many people would feel free to act without considering the harm they cause to others.

We need more than a punishment to stop all kind of crimes. Criminals usually do not think carefully about the consequences before acting. Some crimes happen under influence of drugs/alcohol or some due to the environment they live in. Sometimes they think that no one will ever find out and they won't get caught. So, as you can already see that fear of punishment is often not strong enough to prevent criminal behavior.

People often think that only poor people do the crime, because most them attempt crimes for their livelihoods. They grow up in difficult environments, they do not have enough opportunities which leads them to do such crimes. But we must remember that crime is not committed only by poor people. Wealthy and powerful individuals does commit crimes often and they use money to hide their actions so they can avoid punishment from the law. They bribe and take help from powerful influences and gets away easily, the victim and his family suffers a lot through the process. This depicts that crime is not always caused by poverty sometimes it is driven by greed or for more power. When people see rich criminals escaping justice while ordinary people are punished, they may lose trust in the legal system. They often protest but it's no use as everyone forgets about the victim after some days and this cycle continues differently with different people.

Another reason punishments do not always work, some has psychological issue, abusive childhood so they need counseling but instead they get exposure to crime from a young age. These things can increase the likelihood of criminal behavior. In these cases, simply increasing punishments may not address the root causes of crime.

I think if people from childhood receive good family values, after growing up good job opportunities and community support then they won't end up being a criminal. When people have hope for the future and feel valued by society, they are less likely to engage in criminal activities.

So, punishments are necessary and do help reduce crime alongside prevention method is necessary to avoid such crimes. To create a safer society for our children and future generations, we must combine fair punishment with efforts to address the social and economic causes of crime. Also, the law must be fair and punish equally every criminal, whether rich or poor.
