Food for hazel grouse is seasonal. In spring and summer, their main food is green parts of plants, flowers, insects and seeds. In autumn they eat fruits and berries. And in cold winter, when the vegetation is sparse, he has to eat indigestible food, such as parts of twigs, shoots, buds of various trees and shrubs.
