The red squirrel or Eurasian red squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris)
In general, I rarely see squirrels in the forest. They are quite rare there, and since 2015 I have counted them in the amount of about 4 squirrels. It’s funny to notice how they move closer and closer from distant places in the forest every year.
Squirrels, especially wild ones, actively stockpile food in the fall, hiding them in foliage or on trees. Unfortunately, they do not understand that birds dig up their supplies and eat them.
Towards the end of autumn, squirrels begin to insulate their homes. And it’s funny to see how a squirrel under a tree tears up moss and then carries it somewhere high up.
