🦉 The common whitethroat or greater whitethroat (Curruca communis)

• Curruca is an unidentified bird name mentioned in the poems of the ancient Roman poet Juvenal
• communis (lat.) ordinary, common.

This bird has been called many things: Sylvia communis, Curruca curruca , and now Curruca communis.
The first thing you notice about this bird is its distinctive head shape. Males raise their head feathers, making their heads angular, almost triangular, and appearing larger.

The bird inhabits forests, meadows, fields, and coastal areas. The most important habitat is dense shrub cover.
I spotted these birds in the photo near the riverbank, where there's a small puddle with shrubs and fallen trees. They spend their entire lives in these areas, catching prey and nesting there.
