🦉 The Siberian long-tailed rosefinch (Carpodacus sibiricus)

The male uragus is easily recognized by its pinkish-crimson plumage, which is especially bright in spring. Females and young birds look more modest, they are gray-brown, with dark speckles. Unlike the rosefinch, the uragus has a longer tail and an elegant silhouette.
These birds prefer thickets of bushes near rivers or on forest edges. They arrive late, often in May, when the greenery has already appeared. Their song is a quiet whistle and trill.
They feed mainly on seeds, especially thistle and wormwood. In summer, they add insects to their diet. They build nests low in the bushes, carefully weaving them from grass.
