Far beyond the city there is a wild coniferous forest. In this forest, at the very beginning, there is a small clear lake. On this lake you can often see these ducks. These ducks, not the mallards that are already familiar to everyone. And sometimes sandpipers rest here.

I met these ducks at the end of September, and apparently they were in the process of migration and stopped at this lake to eat and rest.
They typically feed in shallow water, leaning forward or turning completely over ("diving") to reach food from below.

They feed on grass sprouts, aquatic plant seeds, algae and plant particles that they extract from the surface of the water or pull out from the bottom. They can also eat animal food, such as insect larvae and aquatic invertebrates.
