🦉 The lesser spotted woodpecker (Picoides minor , synonym of Dryobates minor)

• Dryobates (Greek) : druos - forest, woodland, batēs - walker, stroller
• minor (Latin) - smaller

I don’t come across this cute little woodpecker often, unlike his older brothers. But most often it can be found in autumn and spring, and it is not averse to joining other species of birds in a general mixed flock.

Compared to large woodpeckers, this friend is unable to peck tree bark like them. Therefore, he prefers to explore and inspect the branches of trees and bushes. But if he sees a tree with rotten bark that breaks easily, then he will not miss the chance to inspect it.
