🦉 The Bohemian waxwing (Bombycilla garrulus)

  • Bombycilla bombux (Greek) silk, cilla (Latin) tail
  • garrulus lat .: garrire to chatter, babble, chirp, garrulus chatty, chirping, noisy; ax prone to

These beautiful birds with a crest begin their flight from their nesting sites in the fall, they fly from the north. And around the end of autumn they reach my region. Late autumn is still full of food in the form of wild small apples, rowan berries, rose hips and viburnum. But this food quickly disappears, as these birds eat it in huge flocks.

Sometimes townspeople see birds lying around in the snow, and everyone says this because the birds eat frozen berries, which then ferment in their stomachs and the birds get drunk. But that's not true! As far as I know, birds simply get frostbite, but eventually recover.
