🦉 The lesser spotted woodpecker (Picoides minor , synonym of Dryobates minor)

• Dryobates (Greek) : druos - forest, woodland, batēs - walker, stroller
• minor (Latin) - smaller

I met this little dude in the fall at the old cemetery through which I walk into the forest. He was not alone, but as it should be in the fall, with a company of other birds, as I (and maybe not only me) call it a “mixed flock of birds.”
While great and willow tits with nuthatches were jumping on the ground and rustling dry leaves, this mini woodpecker was inspecting the trees, or rather their branches.

He was especially interested in a tree covered with some kind of secretions, I don’t remember what it’s called. He examined it, but his capabilities were not enough to peck at it, as large woodpeckers do. This species of woodpecker pecks mainly on thin bark or rotten, diseased trees.
