🦉 The Siberian stonechat or Asian stonechat (Saxicola maurus)

  • Saxicola (lat ): saxum rock, stone, -cola inhabitant
  • maurus (lat.): Moorish, black

These inhabitants of open spaces are easy to meet in early May in meadows and fields. At this time, the birds seem to be already prepared for having offspring, because I have never seen their mating games. They seem to arrive in ready-made pairs and choose a territory for nesting.

So, at this time, the female collects material for building a nest, these are various dry stems, straws, blades of grass. And the male protects her and monitors the territory, notifying her of dangers. This is one of the distinctive features of these birds; they like to perch at the very top of the plant and watch.
