A cute little woodpecker that is about the size of a sparrow. Despite its size, all the similar characteristics of a woodpecker, coloring, and behavior are clearly visible in it. He also has a different voice, similar to the voice of the wryneck.

Sexual dimorphism is pronounced. Males have a red cap on their heads, but females do not.
