These birds return after wintering as one of the last waves. This happens around early to mid-May, depending on the weather.
And this is the most favorable time to try to see these birds.

The fact is that these birds are incredibly shy, cowardly and cautious. And even if they are attracted to the sound, they will fly, but they will carefully hide in the middle of the foliage. Therefore, you need to be in time, while dense foliage has not yet blossomed on the trees.

These pictures were taken by me just in early May. And interestingly, they were made on, so to speak, the lower tier of the forest, which is very rare for these birds. Most likely, the bird was hunting. And these birds eat insects, and their diet includes hairy caterpillars, which no one else eats besides them and cuckoos.
