English version

Among the many types of short pasta, fusilli is my favorite. I’ve tried them all, and whenever I see a package of fusilli on the shelf, I don’t hesitate to take it home to enjoy it with any sauce, from melted cheddar cheese to one made with Diablitos and milk. But today, I had sardines in tomato sauce to go with it—an equally delicious option.

Ingredients:

  • 1 can of sardines in tomato sauce
  • 3 medium onions
  • 5 sweet peppers
  • 1 bell pepper
  • 1 kilo of pasta (snail-shaped)
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil
  • 3 liters of water
  • Hard white cheese
  • Butter

Preparation:

I placed a pot on the stove and added water and a pinch of salt. When it came to a boil, I added the pasta and stirred, covering the pot to speed up the cooking process.

While that was cooking, I washed the vegetables, peeled the outer layer off the onions, and removed all the seeds from both the bell peppers and the sweet peppers. I diced everything and put it in a skillet to sauté with a splash of oil.

Meanwhile, I opened the can of sardines and rinsed them. Then, once the vegetables were tender, I added the sardines and their sauce to the skillet along with a splash of water, stirred, and covered it for five minutes.

By then the pasta was ready, so I drained it and added butter. I turned off the heat under the sauce and proceeded to plate each serving, finishing it off with a sprinkling of grated white cheese. I love little spiral pasta, especially when the accompanying sauce adds flavor and texture, and melted cheese is another of my favorite things, so it was a double treat.
