Hace más de 8 años vivo en Colombia, Antioquia, en el municipio de Caldas. Es un pueblo muy acogedor y, la verdad, me gusta mucho vivir aquí. Una de las cosas que más valoro es que la seguridad es buena y puedes salir tranquilo. Además, no he sentido xenofobia; por el contrario, la mayoría de las personas te tratan de buena manera y son muy amables.
Caldas está aproximadamente a 23 kilómetros de Medellín, y dependiendo del tráfico puedes llegar en unos 30 o 40 minutos. Para mí, esta es una de sus grandes ventajas, porque puedes vivir en un municipio más tranquilo, pero tienes a Medellín muy cerca para estudiar, trabajar, hacer compras o simplemente salir a disfrutar.
He visto que muchos de los pueblos de Antioquia tienen algo muy bonito: su iglesia y su plaza principal, generalmente una frente a la otra. Me parece excelente porque las personas pueden salir a disfrutar, compartir y estar cerca de todo.
Caldas es un municipio que tiene prácticamente de todo. Si necesitas comprar alguna cosa, normalmente la encuentras aquí. También hay restaurantes, cafeterías y lugares donde puedes salir a comer o compartir con familiares y amigos.
Y aunque muchas personas piensan que en Caldas no hay mucho para hacer, la verdad es que sí hay diferentes planes. Puedes caminar por el parque principal y conocer la Catedral de Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes, visitar lugares culturales como el Museo de la Cerámica y el Museo de Arte Religioso, subir al Alto de la Cruz o hacer senderismo y disfrutar de la naturaleza.
También hay diferentes senderos, cascadas y espacios naturales para quienes disfrutan caminar, conocer paisajes y desconectarse un poco de la ciudad.
Uno de los lugares que también se puede visitar es la Cascada Los Saltos, y para las personas que disfrutan de las caminatas está el Camino Real Caldas–Amagá, una ruta que pasa por zonas rurales, fincas cafeteras y miradores.
Claro, si eres de las personas a las que les gusta comprar todo de marca o buscas cosas muy específicas, probablemente tengas que salir a Medellín, pero para el día a día el municipio tiene muchas opciones y no le hace falta tanto.
Caldas también tiene algo muy especial y es su ubicación. Está cerca de Medellín y forma parte del área metropolitana del Valle de Aburrá, por lo que tienes la tranquilidad de vivir en un municipio más pequeño, pero al mismo tiempo estás cerca de una ciudad grande y de muchas oportunidades.
Según cuentan, antiguamente existía la idea de que en el pueblo no se podían construir casas más altas que la iglesia. Claro, eso fue hace muchos años. Hoy Caldas ha cambiado bastante: poco a poco ha pasado de ser un pueblo pequeño a tener una apariencia más urbana, con más edificios y apartamentos. En mi opinión, se ha vuelto más bonito, aunque todavía tiene cosas por mejorar.
Por ejemplo, algunas de sus calles están bastante deterioradas, pero creo que poco a poco se pueden ir solucionando. También depende mucho de las políticas y de las administraciones que estén en cada momento.
Otra cosa que me gusta de Caldas son sus tradiciones. En octubre se celebran las tradicionales Fiestas del Aguacero, una de las celebraciones más representativas del municipio.
Después de tantos años viviendo aquí, puedo decir que Caldas es un lugar al que le he tomado cariño. He visto cómo ha cambiado con el tiempo y, aunque todavía tiene cosas por mejorar, conserva esa tranquilidad, su naturaleza y ese ambiente acogedor que hacen que muchas personas quieran vivir aquí.

I have been living in Colombia, Antioquia, in the municipality of Caldas, for more than eight years. It is a very welcoming town, and honestly, I really enjoy living here. One of the things I value the most is that it is a safe place, and you can go out and feel comfortable. I also have not experienced xenophobia. On the contrary, most people treat you well and are very friendly.
Caldas is approximately 23 kilometers from Medellín, and depending on traffic, you can get there in about 30 to 40 minutes. For me, this is one of its biggest advantages because you can live in a quieter municipality while still having Medellín very close for studying, working, shopping, or simply going out and enjoying the city.
I have noticed that many towns in Antioquia have something very beautiful: their church and main square are usually located across from each other. I think this is great because people can go out, enjoy themselves, spend time together, and have everything close by.
Caldas is a municipality that has practically everything. If you need to buy something, you can usually find it here. There are also restaurants, cafés, and different places where you can go out to eat or spend time with family and friends.
And although many people think there is not much to do in Caldas, the truth is that there are several activities you can enjoy. You can walk around the main square and visit the Cathedral of Our Lady of Mercy, visit cultural places such as the Ceramics Museum and the Religious Art Museum, go up to Alto de la Cruz, or go hiking and enjoy nature.
There are also different trails, waterfalls, and natural areas for people who enjoy walking, discovering beautiful landscapes, and getting away from the city for a while.
One of the places you can also visit is Los Saltos Waterfall. And for people who enjoy hiking, there is the Caldas–Amagá Royal Road, a route that passes through rural areas, coffee farms, and viewpoints.
Of course, if you are someone who likes to buy everything from brand-name stores or you are looking for something very specific, you will probably have to go to Medellín. But for everyday needs, the municipality has many options and you really do not have to go very far.
Caldas also has something very special, and that is its location. It is close to Medellín and is part of the Aburrá Valley Metropolitan Area. This means you have the peace and quiet of living in a smaller municipality while still being close to a large city with many opportunities.
According to what people say, many years ago there was an idea that houses in the town could not be built higher than the church. Of course, that was many years ago. Today, Caldas has changed quite a lot. Little by little, it has gone from being a small town to having a more urban appearance, with more buildings and apartments. In my opinion, it has become more beautiful, although there are still things that could be improved.
For example, some of the streets are quite deteriorated, but I believe that little by little these problems can be solved. It also depends a lot on the policies and the different administrations at any given time.
Another thing I like about Caldas is its traditions. In October, the traditional Fiestas del Aguacero are celebrated, one of the municipality’s most representative festivities.
After living here for so many years, I can say that Caldas is a place I have grown very fond of. I have seen how it has changed over time, and although there are still things that could be improved, it still preserves its peaceful atmosphere, its natural beauty, and that welcoming feeling that makes many people want to live here.
