For a couple of weeks now, I have been seeing on social media that an immersive exhibition room had been inaugurated at the Centro de Estudios Latinoamericanos R贸mulo Gallegos (CELARG) located in the Altamira area, Caracas, Venezuela; This week I went to the place to live this great experience and be able to appreciate the innovative immersive room.
Desde hace un par de semanas atr谩s he estado viendo por las redes sociales que hab铆an inaugurado una sala expositiva inmersiva en el Centro de Estudios Latinoamericanos R贸mulo Gallegos (CELARG) ubicado en la zona de Altamira, Caracas, Venezuela; Esta semana me acerque al lugar para vivir esa grandiosa experiencia y poder apreciar la innovadora sala inmersiva.
When I arrived, I found an art exhibition entitled "OUR AMERICA, CREATIVE PULSE." The first room contained a collection of very interesting art pieces by different visual artists from Latin America and the Caribbean. Under the subtitle "Traces, glances and identities," it celebrates the powerful artistic heritage of that common historical development, turbulent, multicultural and as exuberant as nature itself, which springs from the depths of the continent, addressing it through three thematic axes: social criticism, traditions and identity. Without a doubt, an art exhibition worthy of being appreciated.
Cuando llegue, me encontr茅 con una exposici贸n art铆stica titulada "NUESTRA AMERICA, PULSION CREADORA" la primera sala recopilaba un conjunto de piezas de arte muy interesantes de diferentes artistas pl谩sticos de Am茅rica Latina y el Caribe, bajo el subt铆tulo de "Huellas, miradas e identidades" celebra el potente acervo art铆stico de ese devenir hist贸rico com煤n, convulso, multicultural y tan exuberante como la naturaleza misma que brota de las entra帽as del continente, abordando a trav茅s de tres ejes tem谩ticos: la cr铆tica social, las tradiciones y la identidad. Sin duda alguna una muestra de arte digna de ser apreciada.
Among the works there were authors of great renown in the history of Venezuelan art such as Armando Reveron and Jes煤s Soto, among other artists from Latin America and the Caribbean, but there is one author who really caught my attention and I wanted to highlight on this occasion for his historical context, it is Paul Del Rio; son of Spanish republicans in exile, he was born in 1943 in Cuba, but arrived with his parents to Venezuela in 1945. Still a teenager, he joined the guerrilla movements that, at the beginning of the 60s, were organized by the Communist Party (PCV) and the Revolutionary Left Movement (MIR), with Cuban assistance, to overthrow the then young representative democracy, born after the fall of the dictator Marcos P茅rez Jim茅nez in 1958. In August 1963, Real Madrid participated in an intercontinental summer tournament in Caracas. Traveling with the club was its star, Alfredo Di St茅fano, the best player in the world at the time. Del R铆o went in person with another teammate to the hotel where the Madrid team was staying and with a simple trick on the footballer they passed themselves off as police officers, captured the Argentine star and held him hostage for 48 hours with the aim of making the struggle that the Venezuelan insurgency was carrying out known throughout the world. He was later arrested and released and since then he has given free rein to his vocation as an artist, working in drawing, painting and sculpture.
Entre las obras hab铆a autores de mucho renombre en la historia de arte venezolano como Armando Reveron y Jes煤s Soto, entre otros artistas de Latinoam茅rica y el Caribe, pero hay un autor que me llamo mucho la atenci贸n y quise destacar en esta oportunidad por su contexto hist贸rico, se trata de Paul Del Rio; hijo de republicanos espa帽oles en el exilio, naci贸 en 1943 en Cuba, pero lleg贸 con sus padres a Venezuela en 1945. Adolescente todav铆a, se sum贸 a los movimientos guerrilleros que, a comienzos de los a帽os 60, organizaron el Partido Comunista (PCV) y el Movimiento de Izquierda Revolucionaria (MIR), con asistencia cubana, para derrocar a la entonces joven democracia representativa, nacida tras la ca铆da del dictador Marcos P茅rez Jim茅nez en 1958. En agosto de 1963, el Real Madrid participaba en Caracas en un torneo intercontinental de verano, Con el club viajaba su estrella, Alfredo Di St茅fano, el mejor jugador del mundo del momento. Del R铆o, fue en persona con otro compa帽ero al hotel donde se hospedaba el equipo madrile帽o y con una simple argucia ante el futbolista se hicieron pasar por agentes de polic铆a, capturaron al astro argentino y lo tuvieron secuestrado por 48 horas con el objetivo de dar a conocer en todo el mundo la lucha que la insurgencia venezolana llevaba a cabo. Posteriormente fue apresado y liberado desde entonces dio rienda suelta a su vocaci贸n de artista, Trabaj贸 en el dibujo, la pintura y la escultura.
Then I went into the immersive room, a large room where 4 powerful projectors strategically placed on the ceiling captured a visual experience on the walls complemented by sound effects that left the spectator amazed. I sat on the floor and was immersed in that visual narrative full of Latin American and Caribbean art, getting to know my roots; without a doubt a very captivating and sensitive encounter that I recommend to anyone who has the opportunity to visit the place, to live that wonderful experience. Luego me adentre en la sala inmersiva, una habitaci贸n amplia en donde 4 potentes proyectores situados estrat茅gicamente en el techo plasmaban en las paredes una experiencia visual complementada con efectos de sonido que dejan al espectador maravillado, me sent茅 en el suelo y estuve inmerso en esa narrativa visual llena de arte Latinoamericano y del Caribe conociendo mis ra铆ces; sin duda un encuentro muy cautivador y lleno de sensibilidad que recomiendo al que tenga la oportunidad de visitar el lugar, vivir esa maravillosa experiencia.
