Detective Harry rampaged through the files on top of his desk like a million lives depended on whatever it was he about to find. It had taken him five years to be able to finally get his hand on this files. Five years of doing shady deals for corrupt men just so they could help him get this files, the last piece that would help him solve his wife’s murder.
Five years ago, detective Harry had gone home, only to see his wife laying dead in a pool of her own blood. The bullet in which the murderer had fired at her had gone straight into her lower abdomen and damaged some organs. The doctor said if she had been brought in soon enough, she would had made it. Then the doctor had paused for a bit, looking at the Harry’s supervisor as if waiting for the go ahead signal because he said the four words that drove Harry to tears.
He said. “She was with child”
The thought of his wife dying slowly while hoping that he would walk through that door and save her had drove Harry mad. He had pleaded with his superiors to let him lead the case but they had refused. They had said he wasn’t in the right frame of mind to handle any case, so they gave him a mandatory leave to go rest and get his life back on track. Then the case was handed over to Joe, Joe of all people. All Joe did all day was play with his spinning tractricoid and act serious whenever their superiors walked by, there was no way Joe was going to solve the case, Harry knew it and he had been right. Joe had come to the conclusion that it was a robbery gone wrong and that was the end of it, but Harry wouldn’t have that. So he began an investigation of his own and each file he didn’t have the clearance to access, there was criminal out there who was willing to help him get it for a little favor.
He had done that until he finally got his hands on this files, the last piece of the puzzle. Harry went through the evidence that had been found in his house that day, he had seen all of them before so nothing looked new to him, except the tiny usb flash drive which was placed inside one of the files. He immediately plugged it into his computer and was shocked when he realized it was the security footage of his bedroom, the same footage that had mysteriously gone missing the day his wife had been murdered.
In the footage he could see his wife arguing with a man who had his back facing the camera. He couldn’t hear what they were saying clearly so he immediately plugged in his earpiece.
“There is no way it’s mine. I was careful, I’ve always been careful” the man in the footage said.
“It’s yours and that’s the truth. Harry doesn’t even know yet but I plan on telling him tonight. I plan on telling him I’m carrying your child” Harry’s eyes widen with shock as he continued to watch.
“You can’t do that, you can’t keep the baby and most importantly, you can’t tell him.”
“I am and that’s final” Harry’s wife said and tried walking away but the man immediately grabbed her before hitting her across the face. Harry closed his eyes as the man pulled out his gun and fired at his wife.
Slowly he brought his face back to the screen and watched as the man paced round the room, humans each time he turned around, Harry would pause the video and try to make out his face but he got nothing. He did this five times and gave up. He was about fast forwarding the video when the man in the footage brought out something that caught Harry’s attention. At first, Harry wasn’t sure what it was but as he watched the man spin it on the table, Harry knew for sure what that was, it was no doubt that that was a tractricoid, a spinning tractricoid just like the one Joe had.
