It's so sad that the world (or at least the one around me) has gotten so bad that no one feels you can passionately want to help them. The moment you start going an extra mile to help someone else, that person becomes suspicious and starts associating with you with caution, not because you did anything wrong, but because they feel anyone wanting to help that way is too good to be real.
A few months ago, I had seen a Bluetooth speaker that one of my neighbors has always wanted to buy, but this one was at a ridiculously cheap price. I had immediately rushed to tell him about the deal because I knew he had the money to make it happen.
Well, he ended up not buying it, not because he didn't want the speaker or he didn't have the money, but simply because he was skeptical about the fact that I was constantly reminding him about it. And funny enough, the only reason I was doing that was because I didn't want someone else buying it instead of him, because, like I said, the price was very cheap compared to the normal retail price.
Fast forward to today, and not up to thirty minutes ago, I had told one of my friends that I had information that I was very positive would help him, and he wasn't taking me any seriously. So I kept on asking him to come meet me so I could give him this piece of information that I have.
But the comment that came out of his mouth next was what prompted this whole blog because he had said, “With the way you're very eager for me to come hear this information, are you sure it won't be beneficial to you too?” implying that I wouldn't be this eager to tell him about it if I didn't have anything to gain from him having the said information.
Of course he said it as a joke, and we both laughed about it, but it provoked a thought in me, which is… Has things gotten so bad that no one believes that someone would genuinely want to help them out of the goodness of their hearts, without having any ulterior motives?
