My final year exams started about a week ago, and what that means is that in about a week from now, I will become a graduate. Now if this was two/three years ago, saying those words would make me jump up in joy because ever since I got into this school, the one thing keeping me going was the thought of graduating but strangely, now that that is within my grasp, I no longer feel as excited as I used to those years ago.
Don't get me wrong, I'm still happy that I'm about to leave this school with all of its stress and problems behind, I guess my worry comes from the uncertainty of my future. Because you see, up until now, everything about me had been programmed, almost like I was following a map. Go to primary school, then high school and then the university, but looking at the map now, I just realized that there are no more directions on it. Almost as if the trail I was following is gradually fading away at a faster pace and now I have to make my own trail, my own map.
The thought of that is scary and I remember that I always had that thought at the back of my mind but would always leave it there because I was too scared to face it head on, until recently when I was at the bathroom. I had suddenly remembered that I would be graduating soon and suddenly the question that came to my mind was "what next? Where do I go from here?"
The normal expected response would be to go for the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) which every graduates goes to serve the country for a year after graduating but what next after that.
Luckily for me, I have some few scrabbled plans in my head that I haven't put together yet, but the two most important once are learning a digital skill and then faithfully going to the gym for at least a year, non stop. I've always wanted to learn a skill, I did actually tried learning a skill but I was too lazy and demotivated to see it through so I ended up giving up halfway.
But now that I will be having more time to myself, I plan on utilising it by learning a skill and then registering for a gym because when it comes to the gym, I feel the only thing that would keep me motivated to go there everyday will be the friends I make there. So hopefully, it all works out well for me and maybe a year from now, I would refer back to this post and give you guys an update on how things had been since becoming a graduate.
