A couple years ago, if someone had told me that I would view something like this as a problem, I probably wouldn't have agreed with them entirely. But yeah, apparently, too much maturity is a thing, and to my own understanding, I feel it's one of the few things that stops us from fully enjoying the many good things life has to offer.

A couple of days ago, I had made a post on my WhatsApp status, thanking a friend from always being thoughtful when it comes to me. It was an innocent, appreciative post, or at least that was what it was to me. Only for me to go through my phone, and someone had sent me a text, telling me that doing something like that felt childish.

This was a friend of mine, so I had chosen to ignore him rather than dignify what he said with a response. But then it got me thinking about how we got to this position where celebrating other people in your life has now become childish.

This is the same mentality most people have when they go to a party and see a bunch of their friends dancing, but just to sit and observe, not because they don't feel like dancing and joining in the fun, but because they feel they're too big for something like that. Forgetting that at the end of the day, when we think back to these moments, the only thing we can hold on to is the beautiful memories that were created during those times.

Maturing isn't a bad thing, but going overboard with it is where the problem lies. Like the saying goes, too much of anything is bad. And also, if celebrating the people in my life publicly and telling them how much they mean to me is now considered being childish, I'd rather be a child than be a boring sadistic adult.
