I'm jealous of the person I become when I'm tipsy.
I haven't taken any alcohol in a while, and this is mainly due to my fear of damaging my organs and the dangers that come with consuming alcohol, but if I'm being honest, I don't take alcohol because I like the taste of it or anything like that; I do it because I'm jealous of the person I am when I'm drunk.
I've come to realize that I tend to connect easily with people, have the best conversations with them, and make good friendships when I'm under the influence of alcohol. And sadly, this is the kind of person I wish I were when I'm not tipsy.
Actually, I feel like I become the best version of myself when I'm tipsy (not drunk), because in as much as I'm still very much aware of what I'm doing and everything happening around me, I get this confidence that my real self lacks. The confidence to almost do anything I can think of.
Believe me when I say that if I had had all of that confidence all my life, I most definitely wouldn't be where I am today; I would be in a much better place. Because not only would I have taken any opportunity that came my way, I would have created a lot of opportunities out of thin air through the people I met.
Back at camp, during my last night there, I had struck up a conversation with this guy who happened to be very outgoing and friendly, and he had told me of how he had made friends with kids of politicians who were sleeping in the same room with us. These were people I didn't even know were there, but he became friends with them, and they had offered to help him work where he would be posted, using their father's connection.
He had also gone further to tell me about how one of those kids had sent him a large sum of money as a gift while still in that camp. Now these are connections that I had gone to that camp hoping to make but didn't.
Did I feel sad about it? Of course, I did. But you see, something tells me that if my tipsy self had spent all of that time in that camp, I probably would have been friends with everyone there, even the military guys.
