Have you ever wondered if pole dancers work on "leg day?" When people initially think about pole, a common belief is that poling requires all upper body strength. While we do use a lot of upper body strength, developing leg strength and muscles is actually just as important! Hanging off the pole with just your legs holding you requires actively using muscle to squeeze.
In today's video I go over my favorite leg exercises (and some tips) I use to condition without the pole. I try to spend at least 15 minutes working on these exercises at least twice a week, and we also do a variety of these in pole class.
Leg conditioning is also important is for the beautiful lines. In all forms of dance, the "lines" of a dancer are just as important as the movement. Being able to keep completely straight legs in some varieties of inverts or tricks require both flexibility and a lot of muscle.
Keeping good form on each of the exercises is better than achieving "top faux flexibility" and modifications are definitely great if needed!
I am excited to share these exercises with you and I truly hope you found this interesting/helpful! These are great exercises to incorporate into your exercise routine even if you don't pole! Thanks for joining me today. Please let me know how it goes down in the comments. :)
Love,
Jess
