When we travel from Slovakia to Switzerland we usually spend one night somewhere in between, so that we can rest a bit before continuing on our journey. This time, we didn't have any plans and booked a hotel room at the very last moment. We have many friends in Bratislava, but didn't want to bother them since it was a last moment decision. Instead, we spent some quality time together even though the weather was not ideal.
We were lucky that there was still a room left in our favourite hotel. It is located in the heart of the city and perfect for a day trip as you can reach all places in the old town by foot. And there is always an amazing view from our hotel room 馃檪
You cannot stay more central than this. The Slovak National Theatre is a meeting point for many people as it's very easy to find.
On the other side we enjoyed the view of The Bratislava castle as well as The St. Martin's Cathedral. It's a perfect location!
We came late in the evening, so we didn't go out anymore. My mom gave us some food and we stayed in the hotel. I was watching a movie and my husband was working a bit as he was behind his schedule. We had a complimentary sparkling wine, so the evening turned out to be very nice.
The next day, we planned to have a brunch before jumping in the car and driving off in the direction of Switzerland.
On the way to restaurant we came across this cute sightseeing train. I think it's one of the newer attractions in the city as we haven't seen it before.
We passed by the theatre and walked to The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary (Also knowns as Slovak Notre Dame). It is a national monument that dates back to the beginning of the 13th century. The funny thing is that I've been to this place so many times, but I haven't noticed the church before.
It doesn't look like a traditional church, so this might be the reason why I haven't noticed it before.
The next monument that we saw on our way was The Slovak Philharmonic which is located in The Palais de Bratislava (Also known as Reduta). It's a pompous construction with many small details. I can look at its fa莽ade for ages...
Here are some close ups so that you can understand what I mean 馃檪
From there we continued in the street with several galleries. I think this is the street where many artists meet. I instantly fell in love with this artwork on a fa莽ade of one gallery.
I also enjoy looking at some corners which might not look interesting at first, but when you look at it closer you will find the interesting detail on the fence and the windows as well.
We crossed to another side of a building block through a parking garage where we found this mural. I love that there are places decorated like this.
Here we have one of the many typical streets of Bratislava...
A cute archway in the middle of the town...
If you like playing chess you can do so in the courtyard of this palace...
Once you enter the courtyards you can find unexpected places such as this one...
From there we moved to Donau as I haven't been to the river for ages. We live close to its source and it looks so much different to what you can see in Bratislava.
There was even a boat with a Swiss flag which was a nice coincidence...
There is a nice small park along the river...
You can stroll there and enjoy the view of the river. Well, I'm not sure if the view is so enjoyable, but if you forget the brown water then it's not too bad.
There was a half marathon during our visit, so we saw many tents and stalls with refreshment for runners. The half marathon finished by the time we arrived but they were still there slowly packing up their stuff.
There is a dramatic memorial in the park. I think it is dedicated to World War I, but I'm not so sure.
And this was my favourite place. It's called The Havel's corner (former Czech president) and it says: Truth and love must prevail over lies and hatred!
And here we were slowly approaching the restaurant that we planned to visit. I liked that the spring arrived in Bratislava too...
And here we are! The Brixton house is for me one of the coolest places in Bratislava. The interior is trendy and fun, and the waitresses are kind and helpful.
We started with our drinks. As it was right before lunchtime I chose passionfruit kombucha which was yummy!
Soon after that our food came. I ordered yellow curry which was the best curry that I have ever eaten. It was served with lichi that complimented the dish perfectly. It was very spicy but the sweetness neutralized the sharpness a bit. It was really delicious.
When we finished our food, we walked back to the hotel where we left our car.
I loved the flower arrangement in the lobby. It was simple and delicate, yet beautiful.
We were not so lucky with our drive back home as there were accidents and many traffic jams but we arrived safely which is the most important thing.
Until next time...
