Hello from Thailand on Tuesday! This season is still the time for Thai fruits. Another fruit I love to eat is longan, which has a unique aroma and flavor.
These are the longans that my mother-in-law brought me this morning. It's a fruit native to Southeast Asia. In Thailand, it's mainly grown in the northern region due to the suitable climate and terrain, giving the longans great quality and flavor.
Longan has small, round or slightly oval fruits with thin brown or yellowish-brown skin. The flesh is white, sweet, and has a distinctive fragrant aroma, with a hard seed inside. Longan is a nutritious fruit rich in vitamins and minerals. It can be eaten fresh or used in cooking and desserts. Today, I’m using it to make Sago Pearl with Longan in Fresh Milk, a Thai sweet dessert that combines the creamy richness of coconut milk, the sweet juiciness of longan, and the refreshing coolness of fresh milk. Here’s a simple recipe
Place a pot on the stove, add coconut milk, sugar, and salt. Turn on low heat and wait until it boils and the sugar dissolves completely. Turn off the heat, remove from the stove, and let it cool completely before using.
Place a pot on the stove, add water, and turn on medium heat. Once the water boils, add the sago pearls and stir gently until cooked (the pearls should turn translucent). Drain and set aside.
Pluck the longan fruits from the stem and rinse them with water. Let them drain or pat them dry. Peel the skin and use the tip of a spoon to remove the seeds. Set aside.
Place the sago pearls in a bowl. Pour over sweetened coconut milk and chilled fresh milk. Add the prepared fresh longan. Serve cold or with ice for extra refreshment. For the best flavor, enjoy immediately.
How about the dessert I made today? It’s easy, delicious, and so refreshing! If you’d like to try it, you can use canned longan instead of fresh ones (just drain the syrup first). I promise it’ll taste just as good! The creamy coconut milk, the sweetness of the longan, and the cool freshness of the milk, absolutely delicious!.... Thanks for stopping by, everyone! Wishing you a wonderful day. See you next time! 😀
