The past few days have been a hectic and hazy, but I did managed to clear some space at my desk to focus on these character study. I want to create with minimal imperfect lines and I have been thinking a lot about how those simple line art can transform once you start experimenting with a color palette.
I was mostly concerned with getting the pose and that instrument right, keeping the lines clean and purposeful.
Moving into the colored version,
I wanted to see how far I could push the vibrancy without losing the character's focus or the whole thing from looking cluttered. It’s always interesting to compare the two—seeing the "bones" of the drawing next to the final version reminds me that the art journey is just as important as the end of it. I’m still refining how I handle these gradients and bold color choices, and while it might not be perfect, it’s exactly the kind of creative exercise I needed this week to keep things moving and not stale.
It is always a challenge just letting the art happen, as it could go anywhere but that's all part of the journey. I'm curious to know though, do you prefer the raw, classic feel of the line work, or does the color add something essential to the story here?
Looking at the final touches I realized that I did not add highlights, I was thinking maybe it would be too much because I got lots of bright colors already and some gradient going on. I am feeling better still and that's what is important no gut feeling to do more.
