What a great theme for this week's qurator@qurator's Photo Quest! I'm very fond if this rule... because starting to post on steem was one of the reasons why I discovered what it actually was! I stumbled upen it while reading the posts of some of the great photographers out there (can't recall exactly which one did a great post about composition), and since then I think my photography improved quite a bit!

So, probably most people know it by now, but the rule of thirds basically means that while shooting a scene, whe should try to divide it with two horizontal and two vertical lines, in order to divide the scene in thirds, and place elements that we want to give some focus along the lines, and in their intersection. Sometimes it comes easily, sometimes not really. But among all the photo composition rules, this one is for me the most helpful by far!

Here, the boat is roughly on the first vertical line, and the sun on the second; that balances the image and gives it a more harmonious appearance.

Even is the scene has only one object that we want to stand out... easy: just choose one of the lines, it looks a lot better that just putting it in the middle of the frame, most of the times!

Choosing other points of interest in the photo an placing them among the lines adds to the general harmony of the scene.

And when we dont know where to place the horizon, making the horizon line stand in one of the horizontal lines can often help!

Of course, different photographers will have different ways to look at the scene. But most of the time, when the photo seems well balanced... it means the rule of thirds has been followed!

So here you go; some of my takes on using this helpful rule! Stay safe everyone!
