My walk this day began in my flower garden, where I have done little to no work this year because of the ticks - I have to wear so much protection it takes a lot of the fun out of gardening. But I do walk through everyday, yank a grapevine or Rose of Sharon out, and yesterday I found a crocosmia in bloom. I haven't had many of those lately, I think because there is not enough sun where I planted them.
My chickens don't get out much these days to protect them from our newest neighbor, a fox. I do let them free range when I am on my walks or outside for some other reason so that they can visit their old haunts. One of their favorite places has always been under a massive rhododendron next to my deck, and here they are, cooling off there. If you look carefully (Use your Wednesday Walk eyes) you can see four of my five in this shot. Barbara nearly met her end in the clutches of that fox, so she is reticent to venture this far from the run and is the missing hen.
My Jimmy doesn't usually go far from me, but now and then he will take off with Patches. Here they are next to a neighbor's fence. A moment after I took this shot, Patches scooted under the fence through this hidden opening:
It's fine for a cat to be on the wrong side of a fence, but not so much for an alternative-intelligenced dog who would not be able (or inclined) to come back to my side, so I hightailed it outta there before Jimmy ended up on the next street and I ended up having to spend the next hour getting him back.
My favorite shot of the day was of the pavement! As I walked I noticed that the road was eye-soothingly beautiful. Freshly fallen acorns have such pretty muted colors that look great on that grey background (to me anyway) so I took this one:
Thank you for going on my walk with me!
