This is a continuation of deirdyweirdy@deirdyweirdy's most delicious, albeit somewhat macabre, freewrite to the prompt alcoholic. I again used the most dangerous writing app. The combination of using that diabolical app, and continuing someone else's story, has resulted in content that I would not normally come up with, and a writing style that is different from my natural writing voice.

But when their mother returned at night one early Spring night, and they were awakened by her drunken splats and bumps and crashes, their true nightmare began.

It started easily enough. In the beginning, they hoped that their tawdry, lonely, neglected little world would change for the better. That first night, cupcakes at 3am seemed like a dream come true. Momma made them. All that crashing and splatting and bumping was a drunk putting cupcakes into the oven to bake. The icing may have been runny, but what of that? The cupcakes burnt? No problem! Momma had made them just for them!

The next day, there was no bread or butter in the fridge, just a tray of dried out cupcakes languishing on the counter top. Then the rats came out. Nibble nibble nibble on sweet cupcakes yum yum all over the kitchen the children had cleaned so Momma could bake another batch.

That evening, Momma brought home a puppy. Joy!!! A friend for the children! They taught it to sit and come and stay and get its own bowl and pick up its own toys and the children thought Joy!!! Life is better! Until the day Momma took the puppy and sold it for another bottle of booze.

Their agony was complete. There were no more sleep-filled nights.

Then momma brought home a boyfriend who was neither boy nor friend.

Proof I used the most dangerous writing app:
