Benevolent Dragon

The unconscious mind
has gotten a bad rap.
It's not teeming with dragons to slay
and fires to put out.

Instead, it is our source!
Of course!
duh
Our essences
our beginnings
our ancient wisdoms
all wrapped up in our guts.

These are what propel us
bring us choices
and alter our paths
so we live life more fully
yet
held within reason by the yokes
of all those benevolent dragons.

This freewrite is my entry to @mariannewest's freewrite challenge
https://steempeak.com/freewrite/@mariannewest/day-612-5-minute-freewrite-monday-prompt-benevolent-dragon. I wrote for four minutes and proofread/edited for one minute.

It's also inspired by @ecotrain's Question of the Week https://steempeak.com/ecotrain/@ecotrain/join-us-for-the-ecotrain-question-of-the-week-the-unconscious-mind but is not my entry. At least not yet. It might be the very beginnings of a poem for that contest, but I find it hard to write a poem in just two weeks, you have to live in its skin first.

This is the first time I've tried using an image that was not my own.source: https://www.pexels.com/photo/blur-close-up-dragon-figure-139641/
