Happy weekend community, as usual
@galenkp, brings us several topics to discuss and all require deep reflections.
I want to address the topic of recommendations or advice to give to people who are in abusive relationships.
I chose this topic because incredibly this situation is more common in couples than we can imagine, I have met people close and very dear to me who have lived in this type of relationship and some were unaware of what was happening to them and others were simply looking for a justification, even felt responsible for the relationship not working well, in the worst case they were afraid of assuming the consequences of a separation.
That is why before issuing any advice or recommendation we must listen to the person, without judging, let him/her know that he/she is not alone and that he/she can count on our unconditional support.
From validating the feelings and explanations of the person who is going through the painful experience, the first advice is to let her know that she is not alone and that she deserves to be treated with respect, love and dignity in all circumstances.
It is crucial to point out that the abuse is not her fault and that she deserves to live a life free of violence and abuse. Help her recognize the different types of abuse (physical, emotional, verbal, sexual, etc.) and provide her with information about resources and organizations that can offer specialized support and counseling.
I sincerely believe that people must first be aware that they are being abused, that there is no reason to endure mistreatment and humiliation, because sometimes they feel guilty.
At the same time we must let them know that there are laws, organizations and mechanisms to protect them, many people feel threatened and fear for their lives or those of their loved ones.
Therefore, I would encourage the person to seek professional help, either through individual therapy, support groups or special services. It is important that she feels supported and accompanied in the process of healing and recovery.
Each time we talk, I would remind her that she is valuable and capable of making decisions that benefit her well-being and safety.
So for me there is no better advice than to provide information and support to the person who is in this abusive situation, because I think it is the only way that they can have the tools that will give them the knowledge and strength to face the situation and come out victorious.
Of course, the safety of the person comes first. If you feel your life is in danger or you are in an emergency situation, do not hesitate to contact local authorities or specialized domestic violence services to ensure your protection.
Thank you
