Happy 4th Anniversary dear community of @mundo.autismo, I want to take this opportunity to thank the existence of this space in Hive, dedicated to parents of children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are informed and learn about this condition is essential for the welfare and development of their little ones.
In particular, I came to the community with the objective of supporting a very young neighbor who was alone with her little boy, who was having a hard time understanding and between screams and cries she spent her time looking for support among the closest and older neighbors.
We have been neighbors for many years and we really wanted to help, but we lacked the tools, so the first advice was to take the little one to the doctor.
After the diagnosis of ASD we began to look for information and the community publications were very helpful and comforting for Jessica to read, because not only did she get valuable information, but she was also able to learn from experiences and strategies that helped her in her day to day life.
We have all been learning to treat the child, to give him his space and to help him relate to others. To comply with the theme of the initiative, I am going to comment on the impact on the social integration of the child through outdoor activities.
These activities are excellent for all children, for their physical and motor development, in these little ones with ASD is an effective way to encourage the development of social skills and improve emotional well-being, but for this role to be fulfilled parents must be actively involved in their planning.
In this case, Jessica takes him every afternoon to the park or accompanies him to a space around the corner from
the neighborhood children gather to play.
At the beginning, he only wanted to watch and became unfriendly if they approached him. We talked to the older children so that before going to play, they would spend a short time in the house, not even 5 minutes at the beginning, and then it was extended. In the garden, they showed him the ball or they jumped and played, his mother, a neighbor or I were always there to help in the process of approaching him.
Patience is really needed, there are days he doesn't want to play and prefers to watch them, or walk, but he already allows to be walked and accepts, sometimes reluctantly, to share the ball.
His gait has become stronger and more confident, he has gained in physical and mental stability, he is calmer and more docile.
Jessica is also calmer, she knows that the child with support will be able to integrate into society, she must give him his time, his space and never lose the tenderness..
Happily, we neighbors see how the dynamic between the two is flowing more, it is the result of the work of all, specialists, community and his mother who has grown as a MOM.
.
I reiterate my congratulations and thanks to the community, my admiration and respect to all the blue parents, family and friends..
With patience, love and dedication, we can build a more inclusive and friendly world for all.
